Have you been thinking about starting a blog? Have you been coming up with ideas and then brushing them off to the side? Stop putting it off, take a leap and start your very own blog!
But starting a blog can feel a bit overwhelming. Whatever your reservations, they are only standing in the way of where you want to go.
Fresh start in the new year
While many have already abandoned their New Year’s Resolutions, it is still the beginning of the year. Though it does not feel like the beginning of the year, in reality, we have 10 months left. There is more than enough time.
The start of a new year is a clear starting point, it feels like a clean slate to start over when you start something on the first of the year-or even just the first of the month. But the truth is, you can start something whenever.
Even though we are two months into 2022, it is not too late to start your own blog!
Starting over is okay
You may feel like your age or career dictate that is too late for you, not the calendar date. But it is not too late for you either!
Life is full of phases. Cycles are constantly ending and beginning. We start over and over again more times in our lifetime than we can count. That is okay! That is how it is supposed to be.
You may already have an established career, that does not mean you cannot start a blog. Maybe this is a passion project of yours or a hobby. Or maybe you want to completely pivot careers and lifestyles. All of the above are perfectly okay!
Sometimes it feels like life gets in the way and it is entirely too late. But it isn’t.
Brainstorming is your best friend
Starting a blog can feel overwhelming, so break it down into manageable steps.
You have decided that this is something you want to do. Great! Step one is done!
The next thing to ponder is what your blog will be about, what is your niche. Chances are, if you have been thinking about starting a blog for a while, you already have a pretty good idea. What are the posts that you just cannot stop thinking about writing? Are they all about the same general topic?
If you are still drawing a blank, that is okay! What is something you are passionate about? That would be a great start. Or maybe you could write about something you know a lot about.
Once you have a general idea, try brainstorming topics for posts. You do not need to write out the whole thing right now, just the ideas. How many can you come up with? Shoot for 10 or 15. If you have more, amazing!
If you cannot come up with that many, try a different topic. And then another and another until you find something that makes the ideas start flowing. Do not be discouraged if it takes a little bit, sometimes it does.
If you are still struggling, here are some ideas you can look through for some inspiration.
Believe in yourself
When starting a blog, the best things you can do is be confident and give yourself permission to start.
You have wisdom you can share with others. Or, if you do not want to call it ‘wisdom’, call it:
- Knowledge
- Experience
- Skills
- Information
Whether it comes from your career or life experience, you have so much to share. You just have to believe in yourself a little. What you have to say is absolutely worthwhile.
As hard as it can be to believe, someone out there needs the information stored in those potential blog posts. Someone is looking for it.
As impossible as it can sometimes seem, starting a blog is completely doable. It does not matter how old you are or what time of year it is, you can do it.
Just take a breath, give yourself permission, and then go for it!
