If you have been thinking about changing your career path then you are not alone. There are thousands of people currently sitting at their desks feeling underwhelmed in your current position. It’s okay to want to change your job, it could even be the highlight of your whole career. You will likely have the usual worries which include, age when you change jobs and the qualifications you need. If you do need to take some courses for a change in direction then there is no harm in doing this, it will always look good on your resume. If you need of a challenge but can’t think of any jobs that offer this then consider the four careers below.

1. Teaching

When searching for a career path taking a strong interest inventory test might assist you in finding your path. This test may have specified that a career working with children is your forte. This may be something that you would never have considered for yourself, but it’s worth exploring.

Teaching allows you the unique opportunity to encourage the next generation. It’s an engaging job where you can help others and foster a love for learning.

One great thing about teaching is there is a wide age range. If you don’t necessarily feel comfortable teaching and looking after young kids, being a high school teacher might be for you. The inverse is true if you don’t want to teach teenagers, you can choose to go into elementary education.

If you don’t have a background in childcare then you might go back to college and gain some childcare qualifications. Alternatively, you can head straight into doing your teacher training. You will need to find a school to volunteer while you do this so you can also get on-the-job experience. If you were to decide that teaching isn’t for you then there are many other careers in the childcare world that you could explore.

2. Nursing

Another option that is a challenging yet rewarding job is nursing. This is one of those jobs that will be great if you enjoy working with people and helping them.

You will be in charge of triage which means you will assess people as they come into the hospital. You will also do every other aspect of nursing.

If you want to be a nurse you can work in a variety of places, depending on what’s right for you. There are countless options, including the following:

  • Hospital
  • Nursing home
  • Doctor’s office
  • Care facility
  • School
  • Someone’s home

If you don’t have the necessary qualifications and levels of experience then you can take nursing courses or even have access to nursing at university. Once you find the best place to put these newfound skills to work then you may experience huge levels of career satisfaction.

3. Counsellor

If you want to help people from children to adults then how about you look into counseling? It’s a meaningful career where you can help change people’s lives and self-esteem.

There is a huge shortage of counselors at the moment so doing this will help you, others, and the world of counseling. Huge waiting lists mean people are being held back from progressing as they should due to their mental health. It also means that it’ll be easier to secure clients.

It would usually help to have a background in the medical field. If you don’t have this then you can retrain by doing a counseling or psychology degree.

4. Emergency service worker

Finally, if you want to work in healthcare and help people but don’t want to be a doctor or nurse then how about working for the emergency services? This covers all aspects including police, fire, and ambulance departments. These positions would allow you to help others when they need it most and aid your community.

If you have a driving license and enjoy working with sick people then you could think about becoming a paramedic. Alternatively, if you like solving crimes and consider yourself a regular sherlock then the police department will always need you. If you have a sense of adventure being a firefighter can be an exciting and heroic position.
