How many people go through life at a job that they absolutely hate but they keep going in day after day because they need the money? You can’t exist in this life without an income and, unfortunately, very few people actually have a job they love. Wouldn’t it be nice, however, if everyone could have a job that didn’t feel like work because it was something they really enjoyed doing. This is one of the reasons why a growing number of fashionistas have begun blogging and learning how to monetize their fashion blog.
There are ways to earn an income from a fashion blog and although you probably won’t be making a substantial income at first, it’s something to look forward to once you have learned a few ways to monetize your blog. In the meantime, maybe you could work as a sales rep at a trendy local high-end apparel shop. Look at it like a learning experience until your blog is up and running.
1. Stay on Top of Leading Trends
Although this is something you would do anyway, there are several reasons why you would want to keep the blogs going on fashions that are trending at the moment. For example, Y2K clothing is extremely trendy going into the new year. You may have noticed that several of the leading fashion designers are featuring Y2K outfits in their winter and spring 2023 collections. In fact, Y2K clothes are back and you’ve even bought a Y2K dress for yourself just to wear to the New Year celebration in Toronto. Now, if you are wondering how simply blogging about Y2K clothes can earn money for you, you will be happy to know that this is one way to get visitors to your site.
Once they are on your site you can get paid for linking them to retailers where they can buy some of the fashions you are blogging about. Sometimes you are paid for the links and other times you can make a commission for the clothes they buy if you join an affiliate program. The point is, as you blog about the latest trends that you, yourself, are interested in, you can be making money for just talking about the clothes you love. How cool is that?
2. Sell Ad Space and Blog Posts for Your Blog
No matter where you go online, you see paid ads on the sidebar and other times you can get paid for posting blogs on your site. You can actually make decent money if you write the blog yourself, but many clothing retailers have marketing firs they work with. They have the blogs written about their fashions and then pay you a certain amount for posting the blog on your site. As you begin posting a greater number of blogs, Google will begin recognizing you as a ‘site of authority’ and the higher in rank you go, the more you can charge for selling blog space on you site.
3. Another Look at Affiliate Marketing
We mentioned affiliate marketing above in its most basic sense. This is where you link someone to a product page and if they buy that Y2K dress, for example, you earn a commission just like you would in a clothing store. However, there’s another way to work as an affiliate marketer in the fashion industry and this might even be more fun for you.
You can actually list products for sale on your blog as an affiliate marketer. While this takes a bit more work than simply linking to product pages on a retail site, you get a closer look at the products you are selling. Of course you’d need a payment platform and a reliable checkout process, but you would make more money this way because you would, in effect, be working like an eCommerce retailer.
4. Break Off into Vlogging
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and so it is with fashions. It’s sometimes quite difficult to imagine what you would look like in an outfit you are interested in. Take, for example, that Y2K dress that shows as much skin as it covers. By using a couple of your friends as models, you can have them both wear that dress, in their size of course, to show what it would look like on different body sizes. Sometimes a designer will issue a couple dresses for just this reason and that would be what you’d ‘pay’ your models for a few moments of their time.
It’s really interesting to look at all the ways you can earn an income from your fashion blog and if you are a true fashionista at heart, it won’t be long before your own personal wardrobe will be overflowing and you’ll have all the time in the world to continue following your personal favorite designers as well. Making money is like a dream come true for today’s fashionista and it really isn’t all that difficult to do. It just takes time and a little patience to build a successful blog, but when your day is filled with doing what you love, you’ll wonder where the time really went. You’ll be having just that much fun.
