What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?
I motivated myself to start my own business. At the time a lot was going on and I needed something positive around me. I was constantly putting myself around others in the fashion industry and it all inspired me to do what I am doing now… styling professionals.
Tell us about your business.
Fashionably Yours, is a NYC based image/wardrobe consulting and personal shopping firm. We provide styling services to professionals who need that extra “umph” into their wardrobe so they can stand out and feel confident in what they wear.
Are you currently running any promos/contests/giveaways that you would like our readers to know about?
Yes, we have a giveaway available for everyone that opts into our e-mail list. By opting in you’ll get access to “4 Ways You Can Upgrade Your Wardrobe”. So opt in guys, it’s something everyone needs access to!
Where is your business based?
We’re based in NYC, but we provide our services to professionals all throughout the New York tri-state area.
What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?
Before starting Fashionably Yours, I did some research. I put myself in my client’s shoes and thought of ways I could make the process simple, fun & easy. I also put myself out there by attending networking events and getting tons of valuable advice from my mentors.
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
What’s been most effective for me has been word of mouth and networking. I try my absolute best to use my tools and resources, such as social media, and attend a few events to personally meet my new potential clients. The first impression is what counts!
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
The biggest challenge for me has really been separating myself from my brand. Sometimes as a business owner you lose sight of having a “life”. My business is my life! (lol)
How did you overcome these challenges?
I’ve learned that sometimes it’s okay to take a break, or even a vacation. I work hard, and deserve spoiling myself from time to time.
How do you keep motivated through difficult times?
As a business woman, things can go wrong almost everyday, and I’ve been able to motivate myself by thinking BIG. My business is BIGGER than any small obstacle that comes my way.
How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
With some thorough research, I’ve been able to come in contact with some of my competitors and actually meet with them! I think all of us are special and different in our own way. Personally I think what makes me different is my style, my experience and the way I work. I am able to relate with all my clients on a personal level. I make their shopping/styling experience more as a day/night out shopping with their best friend.
What is the best advice you have received recently?
The best advice I’ve received recently is from my grandmother actually, she told me that whenever you’re starting something good, it will always start out tough. But in the end it’ll be bigger than you ever thought.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
You’re amazing and don’t let anyone tell you different. You’re a business owner… it doesn’t get any better than that! And one other thing don’t ever give up because it’s too hard, your business is BIGGER than your obstacles.
What is your favorite business tool or resource?
At the moment my favorite tool to reach customers or prospective clients would have to be attending events, and meeting those wonderful people in person. I personally love meeting new people and reconnecting with them.

What is a good article or book you have read recently?
One of my favorite books that I’ve read recently would have to be “The Power of Broke” by Daymond John. It was honestly a book that I couldn’t put down. I advise every entrepreneur that is serious about their stuff to read it. It’s inspiring and Daymond tells his story about his grind and struggle to get to where he is now.
What are you currently learning about for your business or looking for help with?
I am currently learning that a lot more people need my business – more than I thought (lol). I also am learning that although a lot of people may need my service, there are people who may feel embarrassed to admit it. My goal now is to help them realize their problem and show them ways I can solve it. A win-win situation for everyone.
What are your goals for the next few months and how are you striving to achieve them?
I have too many to name, in the next few months I am working on ways I can interact more with my clients. I have a few events that I’ll be hosting, attending and a few collaborations in the works. I can’t say too much, but I am excited to share these projects when the time comes.
