Joycelyn Thurmond believes that lives transform through first transforming the mind. She had to transform her own mind first to believe in herself before she was able to do it for other people. Now she is a transformation coach and empowerment speaker. Read our interview with the lovely Joycelyn below…
What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired to start my own business after being in a car accident that left me off of work with no source of income. I had always dreamt of owning my own business, however I lacked the belief in myself to actually start one. So being off of work was the fire underneath me that forced me to get started.
Tell us about your business.
I’m in the personal development industry. I serve as a Transformation Coach and Empowerment Speaker. My message enables generations to transform their lives by first transforming their mind. As a coach it is my duty to reposition perspectives, aide in the removal of limiting beliefs and assist my clients in not only discovering their individual purposes, but guiding them to live in their purpose on purpose, everyday. I have a result-driven approach to coaching that will empower recipients to transcend the negative and restrictive aspects of life and rise above victoriously into a life of greatness. As a “Giant Client” you’ll learn to remove self limiting beliefs, fears, and insecurities and soar into the life of freedom that has been waiting for you to embrace and live in it. I am a creator, therefore I will teach you how to create, and together we will bridge the gap between where you are and where you desire to be. My gifts attacks doubts, fear, obstacles and perceived failures and transforms them into tools for success.
Are you currently running any promos/contests/giveaways that you would like our readers to know about?
Anyone that becomes a “Giant Client” and mentions this article will receive the introductory promotional rate for my monthly packages.
Where is your business based?
We are based in Detroit, MI. However all of my coaching sessions, including Purpose Discovery can be done virtually.
What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?
My first few steps may be different from so many others, the first thing I did was create a vision of who my business would serve. I discovered my purpose and created a business that allowed me to serve through my purpose. I then created the vision for my business. I determined how much money I wanted to generate weekly/monthly/annually. I decided the “rules” if I’d work on holidays or take weekends off, even hours of operation. I got the entire vision and I wrote it down. Then I went and got a mentor/coach. I realized that entrepreneurship was new territory and I wanted to be successful, so I got under the direction of someone who was successful at what I was attempting to do. Next, I wasn’t afraid to invest in myself. I was off work so funds were limited however I believe in the law of reaping and sewing. I knew that if I invested into myself and the direction I was going that eventually I would see the harvest. I am living in that harvest now!
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
For me the most effective way of raising awareness was word of mouth. I noticed that the more I served others, those individuals shared my business and services with others.
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
My biggest challenges have been getting others to believe in themselves as much as I do. I honestly believe that lives transform through first transforming the mind. Many individuals are conditioned into believing the life they are currently living is as good as it gets. Subconsciously they don’t believe they can have more, therefore they never do anything to get more out of life. So getting people to see that there really are no limits is the biggest challenge I’ve had.
How did you overcome these challenges?
I don’t give up on people. I am a by any means necessary type of lady. If I have to scale walls, shatter glass ceilings, climb mountains, break down doors that prevent my clients from moving forward- I WILL!
How do you keep motivated through difficult times?
I have an amazing community of support. I believe that the company you keep is important and they can make or break your success. I surround myself with like minded individuals, that hold me accountable as I do them. We encourage and challenge each other daily to be the best that we possibly can.
How did you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
I don’t have competitors. There isn’t competition when you are living in your purpose. I was created to serve those who I was created to serve.
What is the best advice you have received recently?
The best advice I’ve received recently was to leave my laptop at the office. I didn’t realize how “work strung” I had become. I would go to work and work just to go home and do more. Since doing so, I have experienced new mornings! I hear the birds chirp, the sounds of the wind blowing, and it forced me to be present in each moment in time.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Believe!
What is your favorite business tool or resource?
I love and appreciate good ole’ NETWORKING! I enjoy building and cultivating actual relationships, and having face to face dialogue. While I use many tools, including social media – to me there’s nothing like actually getting out and becoming a tangible resource for someone else.

What are your goals for the next few months and how are you striving to achieve them?
I have a goal to bring 80 people to purpose in the next few months. That is where fulfillment rests, in knowing why you were created. I am reaching this goal through speaking engagements, and my purpose discovery courses, also through personal interactions.
