What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?
I had started a virtual assistant business in 2005 so I knew what it took to start a home based business. I lost my husband in 2010 and then in 2014 decided to write a book about it and my life. My book “Go For It!” A Woman’s Guide to Perseverance became a Best Seller on Amazon in Feb 2016. I knew then that I wanted to start my own speaking and coaching business from it.
Tell us about your business.
Since I was a virtual assistant for 10 years, I coach others to become virtual assistants. I also coach others to overcome life challenges. I speak on going from “taking back your life” and “how a book can change your life.” I speak with enthusiasm, energy, passion and being positive. Life is worth living!

Where is your business based?
South Dakota, USA.
What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?
Really weighing out the pros and cons of running a home based business again. I had a brick and mortar store that I sold to be able to afford to do this. Then reaching out to people I knew who would support me.
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
Social Media! Twitter and Facebook. I belong to groups on Facebook that has really helped and I tweet a lot.
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Finding more clients and marketing.
How did you overcome these challenges?
Persistence is the Key. Keep networking yourself over and over and over again. I never stop looking for new places to network myself.
How do you keep motivated through difficult times?
I love to give back to others. So when I am having trouble staying motivated I reach out to others and see how I can help them. Giving back reinforces my desire to give and get more.
How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
I try to be unique. I talk about the different areas of business I have done. That I will try things and make them work. Even if no one else has ever heard of it before or it is a new concept. For example: starting a virtual assistant business in 2005.
What is the best advice you have received recently?
Eating Cocoa Pebbles will go right to my hips LOL (I LOVE Cocoa Pebbles). No seriously, to never stop focusing on the future. Always keep a positive mindset and don’t dwell on the past.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Never stop trying! Even if it is hard it will be worth it. Don’t be afraid to take the first step and then the second one. A lot of people can do the first step but then get scared of the second one. Take each as it comes and deal with it.
What is your favorite business tool or resource?
The different Facebook groups I belong to and Twitter. I can reach out to others and they are willing to help me. I do the same in return.
