Jaiana is based in Austin, Texas, USA with her doggo Maui and fave human of 8 years. Jaiana launched Boss Babe Fitness Academy in July, 2019 and uses her various health certifications to guide women on how to confidently shape and sculpt their sexiest body with her step by step Boss Babe Blueprint.
1. What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?
I wanted to start my own business to honor my deceased grandmother. I remember getting a phone call from my mom that I needed to end my summer internship in Austin, Texas, USA and head straight to the US Virgin Islands. After she passed, I was angry – like really angry. My grandmother would never be able to see me walk down the aisle, meet my future kids, or simply be there for laughs, tears and everything in between. I felt robbed. I promised myself that I would get healthy in her honor and that led to a burning desire to help other moms, sisters, aunts and grandmothers get healthy too.
2. Tell us about your business.
Boss Babe Fitness Academy guides women on how to confidently shape and sculpt their sexiest body with a step by step Boss Babe Blueprint. The signature Blueprint consistently helps women eliminate emotional eating and finally love how they look and feel all year long. This results in our clients losing stubborn body fat, getting toned and most importantly ditching toxic diet culture.
3. Where is your business based
Austin, Texas, USA.
4. What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?
I invested in an online health and fitness coach, Michael Chu, who runs ChampionDevelopment. It’s a business coaching program for in person trainers who want to grow a business online. I also started a free group called Boss Babe Fitness Community, that’s grown to over 1,400 women (and counting), that’s a judgment-free, fun and educational place for women on a health journey looking to ditch diet culture.
5. What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
I constantly post on social media in order to grow my following: This has helped my ideal client get to know me through my story posts and main feed posts. I am very confident in what I stand for in the health space 1) ditching diet culture 2) healing your relationship with food by overcoming emotional eating and 3) exercising for your body type and goals. This mindset and my posts has helped my ideal client get inspired and feel hopeful that working with me can finally change her life and health, and it does.
6. What have been your biggest challenges so far?
My biggest challenge so far has been staying organized and piling too much on my plate. Like many entrepreneurs, the idea of growing and scaling my company is so exciting but that often leads to me putting too much on my plate and feeling overwhelmed.
7. How did you overcome these challenges?
I’ve been able to overcome my disorganization by setting up trello boards, hosting group and 1:1 meetings with my team on a weekly basis. On our calls, we discuss the timeline and status on current projects and get clear on what support my team needs to carry the projects forward or what I need to delegate. I have been able to overcome piling too much on my plate by hiring a team and delegating tasks so that we can accomplish more in the company without me having to do everything.
8. What is the best advice you have received recently?
I was in Greece for the 2022 winter holiday week and we were in the car talking to family about work, money and future plans. The aunt looked at us and said no more of this talk, let’s enjoy the view. It was a reminder to be in the present moment and to enjoy what’s around me right here and right now. To get out of my own head and to stop taking trips back into the past or trying to skip to the future but to enjoy the present view because as quickly as it comes, it goes.
9. What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
You are NOT your business and your business is not you. When you’re doing work that you’re unapologetically passionate about, it can be really easy to lose your identity in your business. When your business is doing well, you’re doing well. When your business is having challenges, you’re taking it personally. Remember, your business is its own separate brand, identity, entity.
10. What are you currently learning about for your business or looking for help with?
I am currently looking for help from a social media strategist for Instagram. I would love some support with implementing a content strategy, copywriting support, softwares to help analyze insights and then to even schedule out posts. For some reason, Instagram just is not my jam but I also know the value of the platform for attracting my ideal client.
11. What are your goals for the next few months and how are you striving to achieve them?
My goals for the next few months are to implement a content strategy that feels easy and supportive of my work style. We are finalizing our 2023 SOPs (standard operating procedures) for my sales and coaching department and then I’ll be hiring someone to join the sales team. Focusing on these 3 tasks will increase our impact and income because we will have the backend infrastructure to impact more lives and create the best coaching experience for our 2023 clients!
12. What is your favorite business tool or resource?
My favorite business tools are 1) Clockify – time tracking app and 2) MyFitnessPal – it helps me deliver a powerful nutrition program to my clients
