Consumers don’t buy products, they pay for better versions of themselves.
People pay for books because they’re not satisfied with their current state of knowledge.
If a book can change someone’s current state of dissatisfaction into satisfaction, the author has done their job.
The book, 5 Day Weekend, has been transformational for me along my journey as an entrepreneur and I have no doubt it will be for you too.
Every line in this book is gold! I have picked out some golden nuggets of information to share with you that resonated with me.
“In the security mindset you have neither freedom nor security.”
I have experienced this feeling firsthand, as I am sure most of you have as well.
When I held the title as the National Wedding Sales Manager, I was bound to my phone 24/7. When my fiancé called me from overseas and told me his brother had just been murdered, I immediately asked my boss if I could go to the funeral…and he said NO, because it was booking season and it would affect sales.
I ended up quitting and moved overseas to be with my fiancé and his family. All my hard work of moving up the corporate ladder was gone in an instant. I had to reinvent myself and find a new career now that I lived in a third world country where I didn’t speak the local language. So I turned to my laptop to find remote work and that is when LadyBossBlogger was created!
“Don’t be a passive ‘librarian’ of the mind where you can acquire knowledge without acting on it.”
This is a huge reminder, especially if you’re a bookworm, to make sure to put into practice what you read! It’s great to acquire knowledge, but when you put it into use, THAT is when transformation begins.
“It’s not the strongest of the species that survives, it’s the one more responsive to change.”
The world is changing faster than ever right now. Loads of small businesses are popping up and tons of giant businesses that have been around for forever, such as Toys“R”Us, are going out of business!
If you aren’t jumping online and joining the digital media age, you’re going to get left behind!
Looking back, I am so grateful that I was put in a situation where I had to jump on the digital train.
“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable prerequisite for success.”
Everyone who is successful says this, but no one wants to believe it.
People love to elevate the destination and neglect to shed light on the journey. Yes, it’s true that you can build a business from scratch and be successful for a few years, but how long will it last?
We will all work until we retire or die. Most people work because they have to. The successful ones work because they want to.
“If you don’t find a way to make money in your sleep, you will work until you die.”
This will the case for anyone working a corporate job right now.
I have found that affiliate income is the way to go for people who are just starting out and wanting to make money “while they sleep.”
Meaning you stop exchanging your hours for dollars.
Learn how you can work from home in this post.
The next step for me is learning how to invest in real estate, which is one of the ways the rich make passive income.
“Passion alone won’t bring you success in the field of your choice. People generally pay for skills, not passion.”
Everyone is talking about ‘finding your passion’ these days, while you must enjoy what you do, you must also be good at it!
Having said that, most people think what is keeping them stuck is a lack of knowledge and skill, but that is easily compensated through commitment and perseverance in learning a new skill!
“Surround yourself with 5 people who are more successful than you.”
Seek to provide value for them and glean advice in their presence.
A good pointer is to spend 20% of your time mentoring others (because yes, you can always teach something to someone), 30% of your time with others on the same frequency, and 50% of your time with those that are more experienced than you.
HOW TO TRANSITION OUT OF YOUR CORPORATE JOB
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
Check out 5dayweekend.com to download your idea optimizer to help you come up with a plan!
Remember that money is not a purpose, it’s a BY-PRODUCT of your passion.
What do you enjoy doing? What makes you lose track of time? If you’re not screaming YES at an idea, then the answer is NO.
“Don’t quit your day job without a plan.”
We all have bills to pay and people we are responsible for.
After you’ve had 6 consecutive months of making the same as you do in your side hustle as you do in your current day job, then quit.
You’ll make better financial decisions when you’re stable in your mind.
I remember when we moved back to the States and all of a sudden had 5x more bills than we did overseas, I almost invested 25 grand in a business builder program.
While it could have been good, I was getting anxiety attacks from spending that kind of money I didn’t have that it wasn’t worth the cost of my health and wellbeing.
Also as you’re preparing for your exit, listen to podcasts on your commute and fill all hours of your day with productive material, while you’re doing the dishes, working out, traveling, etc.
The more you’re immersed in learning on the go, the faster you’ll accelerate your growth.
“Apply the 365 day rule. If you wake up one hour early to dedicate to something worthwhile for your future, you can’t help but to reap results.”
I used to wake up at 10-11am and go to bed at 1-2am. I have never been a morning person and never planned to be, but when I started changing my eating habits and exercising more, I started to have more energy and naturally started waking up early.
Now I wake up at 6am and go to bed at midnight and get a 5x more done every single day!
“If you have a good relationship with your company, a good way out of the company would be doing your first gig as their freelancer.”
In order to do so you must shift your mindset from dollars per hour to value per dollar.
You FIRST hustle to determine market value and demand. Once successful, you’ll be able to quit. THEN you create your business pipeline and systems to help you step away from the business.
“Build a business around your life, not around your business.”
Lots of people leave their jobs only to become their own employee instead of becoming the boss.
There is a difference between being self-employed and being a business owner.
“If there is no way to scale your self-employed venture, then all you’ve done is build yourself another job.”
This really struck me and is something I am working on now!
Finally, I am going to leave you with this quote.
“Materialism does not create happiness, the good life is found in simplicity. The simplicity of meaningful relationships, unforgettable experiences and the freedom to simply be in the moment without worrying about bills.”
All this only covers the first few chapters of the book. Because he is so advanced, I wasn’t able to comprehend the second half of the book! It is definitely something I will keep going back to as I continue along my entrepreneurial journey.
