Shavahn Dedrick is a Certified Marketing Manager. Her job is to bring awareness to brands and create sales driven marketing strategies. She creates a positive image of brands and helps correct any flaws within their current marketing system to promote growth in the company.
What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?
I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, I wanted work on my own schedule, travel and run my company the way that I wanted — not for someone else, following their rules!

I help create brand awareness and sales drive through strategic marketing by creating a plan to better reach and satisfy customers while increasing profitability and productivity.
Are you currently running any promos/contests/giveaways that you would like our readers to know about?
At this moment, I’m offering to create free marketing plans (that info is on my website).
I am certified in marketing management.
Where is your business based?
It’s based in Ohio right now, but I’m hoping to move it to Houston, TX next year, and set up an office there.
What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?
The first steps that I took were to become certified, then I connected with other business owners, and researched like crazy about starting your own business and my field of work.
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
Using Instagram honestly, I didn’t think I would get the response that I did so early on, but it’s been great.
Also, just reaching out to business owners has been helpful!
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Finding the time to do all of the work that I need to for my clients, plus still trying to promote my business.
How did you overcome these challenges?
I usually try to create a schedule where I can work on my business, and set days that I only work on my client’s businesses.
How do you keep motivated through difficult times?
I just remember this is my dream, this is what I wanted and I enjoy doing it, I love the feedback and being able to help my clients grow their businesses.
How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
I try to be myself, show my client that I’m a real person and I face some of the same things they do on a daily basis, I don’t want to just be looked at as just a business, but as a woman and to be relatable.
What is the best advice you have received recently?
“That the only failures are the ones that stop trying.”
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Keep going, and not to be afraid of trying new things if something doesn’t work out as expected.
What are your favorite business tools/resources and why?
I love Canva, I create all of my social media post and ads on there, I also love sheets by Google, it creates a spreadsheet for me so that I can keep track of everything and I don’t have to do it myself.
What is a good article or book you have read recently?
I actually have not read any books lately, I haven’t found the time, unfortunately.
What are you currently learning about for your business or looking for help with?
I’m in the process of learning more about branding and working on Adobe.
What are your goals for the next few months and how are you striving to achieve them?
My goals for the next few months are to just continue growing a social media presence and work on branding myself. I’m becoming more engaging with my followers and posting more often
