Reddit is a growing platform and is the 7th most popular app in the United States. 52 million users are on the platform daily while the site has 50-billion plus monthly views. Due to this large audience, you shouldn’t overlook Reddit as a space to advertise your business. There’s a variety of different niches on the app so you will be able to find your target audience. Here’s a guide on how to effectively advertise your brand on Reddit.
1. Make an account
In order to post ads on Reddit, you must first make create a Reddit Ads account. The process is simple whether you already have a regular account on Reddit or not.
Those who do not have an account on the platform can create one at ads.reddit.com. Here you’ll create a username and password, and fill in info such as your business name.
If you already have an account you can also go to the page ads.reddit.com. On this page scroll to the bottom and press “Sign In”. This will then fill in the majority of the required fields, but fill in any information that’s missing. After filling in the fields press sign up to continue.
2. Choose an objective
After you’ve created a Reddit Ads account, it’s time to create your ad campaign. As you advertise your brand on Reddit, keep in mind your overall goals.
The platform will give you a variety of campaign objectives to choose from including:
- Brand awareness and reach
- Traffic
- Coversions
- Video Views
- App Intalls
For brand awareness and reach you’ll pay CPM. You’ll pay CPC for traffic, conversions, and app installs. Lastly, you’ll pay CPV for video views.
After that, you can choose the type of ad you want to choose. The different ad options include:
- Text
- Video
- Link
- Gallery/carousel

3. Create the campaign
Now it’s time to create your campaign. Make sure you’re logged into your Reddit Ads account.
From here go to the campaign dashboard and click the “Create Campaign” tab. Then fill in the details of your campaign, such as the campaign name. This is for internal use and users will not be able to see this displayed with your advertisement.
After this you’ll choose your funding instrument and choose one of the objectives previously listed.
4. Start an ad group
Next, you’ll be directed to a page where you can create an ad group. An ad group allows you to more specifically tap into relevant audiences for your brand.
When creating an ad group you’ll need to determine the following:
- Name of your group
- Audience
- Placement
- Budget
- Schedule
The name of the group is just for your use. This allows you to stay more organized on your dashboard.
Your audience accounts for who you want to target with your ads. You can choose specific interests, communities, locations, and devices you’d like to reach. Consider your customer base to help with this process.
Placement accounts for where on Reddit your ads appear. The choices include feed, conversations, or both.
For your budget, you’ll need to determine how much you are willing to spend. You can do this based on how much you are willing to spend each day or the amount you’ll spend over the entire duration of the campaign.
Your schedule accounts for when you want your campaign to run. You can make it start immediately after it gets approved or pick a specific start and end date.
5. Construct an ad
Now that you’ve built your required framework, it’s time to create your ad. You’ll be directed to this page by doing the previous steps.
You can use existing posts for your ad, so determine which you’d want to use. They appear under “Post Library”.
When you find the one you want to use press “Duplicate”. Then you can make changes and review the post.
To start an entirely new ad press “New Post”. Then you can choose your:
- Post type
- Title
- Body copy
- Embed type
- Embed url
Lastly, you’ll be able to preview your ad in both mobile and desktop layouts. When you’re satisfied, press “Review”.
6. Run your ad
After creating your ad, it’s time to submit it for approval. The time this takes varies, but typically it’s around 48 hours.
Once your ad is approved it will begin running depending on the scheduled time. If you chose to start it immediately, it will begin once approved.
