Did your engagement drop massively lately on Instagram? Don’t worry it’s not just you. With the Instagram Algorithm, there has been a massive engagement drop on almost everyone’s account, but which accounts didn’t get a drop you may ask now?
The answer is pretty simple, those who have an engaged community, because they interact with their followers on a daily basis. Don’t worry you can get your engagement back too, by following some simple rules.
Timing
First of all, even though it seems obvious, your posting time is important. If you have an Instagram business account, check when your followers are most active and post then. I suggest using Iconosquare for an in-depth analysis. Where are your followers from and when are they most active? It is a waste of your pretty picture if you post it when no one is online.
Call To Action
If you want your followers to engage with your post, tell them. Ask them a clear question (just one) in your caption and tell them to answer in the comments. That’s not a new idea, but what you should do is to combine it with your story. Insta-Story is getting more and more popular yet; many accounts are not using it to its full potential.
Use Insta-Stories Wisely
Instead of just saying in your stories that you posted a picture in your feed, use the Instagram Stories as a teaser and combine it with your post. For example: Where is your favorite beach on earth? I just posted a picture of mine, go check it out in my feed and let me know yours in the comment. My favorite answers will be featured in my stories tomorrow. The more creative you get the better. Make your followers answer something funny or share something personal.
Engage
Once your followers did what you asked them to do, your job is not finished there. Now you go back to all your comments and you start answering every single one of them. Answer in a meaningful way, maybe even ask an additional question if possible – really show them that you read their comments and value their input. Then the next day you feature a few answers in your stories and say thank you for all your input.
- If you want to grow your followers on Instagram – you interact with accounts that don’t follow you back yet.
- If you want more engagement – you interact with your followers.
Be Social
This means, you also comment and like on the pictures that show up on your feed. If you don’t follow everyone back, simply click on every account that liked your picture and like at least 3 pictures of each account. Yes, this is a lot of work, but that’s why it’s called social media – you have to be social.
It may take some time to build up your engagement, but if you have an engagement community the Instagram Algorithm will rank your pictures higher in the future.
