What motivated and inspired you to start your side hustle projects?
Honestly, when I first began my television career, money was extremely tight! Tapping into my talents, I found side hustles to help make ends meet and grow my brand. From motivational speaking, on-camera hosting, modeling you name it! The extra money made a world of difference both financially and professionally! I promised myself no matter how far I got in my television career, I will continue to have multiple sources of income. Today speaking is my main side hustle. I’m blessed to travel all over the country and internationally using my gift to empower others! From schools, colleges, nonprofit organizations, businesses to entertainment events!
Where is your business based?
I’m based in the Baltimore and DC area, but I speak and host at events all over the globe!
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Discipline!
How did you overcome these challenges?
Not going to lie, it’s tough balancing a full-time career and entrepreneurship, but it can be done! You have to constantly push yourself! Your brand will only go as far as the energy and time you put into it. I have a daily to-do lists to help me stay focused and know exactly what I want to achieve each day. After I leave the television station, I spend hours working on my personal business. Meeting with clients, creating content for my website, promoting myself on social media and speaking at events! It’s not easy but with a strategy in place, it can be done!
How do you keep motivated through difficult times?
I’m very spiritual! My relationship with God keeps me focused. I’m also inspired by my parents’ determination. We immigrated to the United States from Dominica and struggled when we first arrived. I saw the sacrifices they gave my brother and I in order for us to have a better life. My parents worked way too hard for me not to be successful!
How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
My vibrant personality! Sounds cliché but it’s true. I have the gift to instantly connect with anyone! I’m not afraid to be myself – flaws and all! When I interview people, I am just myself. When I speak at events, I get personal and real! People can feel my genuine spirit. As a first generation American, I’m also one of the few women that do what I do for a living that come from my background. It’s important for me to empower others to go for their dreams while staying true to myself. On top of that, I have an insane work ethic!
What is the best advice you have received recently?
Don’t be afraid to share your greatness with the world.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Ladies everyone needs to have something of their own! If you have idea, go make it happen! The only person who can stop you from succeeding is yourself! Keep pushing!
What is your favorite business tool or resource?
